Do you want to build connections with your fellow community members?

Do you want to support innovative learning projects?

We invite you to apply to become a member of the Community Education Advisory Council, where you can help us fulfill our mission to build better futures across Rochester.

WHAT is the Community Education Advisory Council?

We are a group of volunteers who care about lifelong learning and are willing to provide our input regarding quality programs for children, youth and adults. Each month, we review grant applications for innovative learning projects and determine which ones to fund.  We also serve as ambassadors for Community Education in the community, sharing the great learning resources available here.

Purpose

  1. Sponsor, promote, and assist in the development of Community Education programs and services, according to state guidelines

  2. Provide a "sense of community" in support of projects

  3. Advise the Exec Director of Community Ed on matters that relate to the responsive development of Community Education in the Rochester district

  4. Assist in recognizing and recommending solutions to community concerns

  5. Maintain relations with sources of support on local, state and/or national levels

Goals

  1. Advise program staff on appropriate policies and monitor policy consistency for the Community Education programs

  2. Advise the Exec Director on budgets related to Community Education before a recommendation is made to the School Board

  3. Provide input on appropriate facilities rental policies and procedures for all school district buildings as developed by the Exec Director and prior to being recommended to the Superintendent and School Board

  4. Assess and address, on an ongoing basis, the needs of the community for growth and direction of the Community Education program

  5. Make recommendations for improvements that can be made in Community Education programs

  6. Cooperate with agencies serving the community toward common goals and to identify any overlapping responsibilities and/or voids in service

WHEN does the Council meet?

The first Wednesday of the month (October-May) from 3:30-5:00pm, typically at Northrop Education Center, 201 8th Street Northwest.  We publish the calendar in September every year, so you have the full schedule ahead of time.

HOW do I get involved?

A very simple process; complete an online application or email your interest to Deirdre Conroy at

deconroy@rochesterschools.org. From there our Exec Director of Community Ed will contact you to set up a brief discussion and invite you to the next meeting on the calendar.
