Rochester Schools Safe Routes to School Strategic Plans
Minnesota Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a statewide effort to make it safe, convenient, and fun for all youth to walk, bike, and roll—both on their way to school and in daily life. Walking or biking to, from, and during school gives students an easy way to stay active, boost their health, and arrive ready to learn.
During the 2024-2025 school year the City of Rochester & RPS received planning assistance in from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to create an SRTS Plan for:
Bamber Valley, Bishop, Churchill | Hoover, Elton Hills, Folwell, Franklin, Gage, Gibbs, Jefferson, Lincoln K-8, Longfellow, Overland, Pinewood, Riverside Central, Sunset Terrace, and Washington Elementary Schools.
Planning for our middle schools—Dakota, Willow Creek, Kellogg, and John Adams—took place during the 2021–2022 school year.
The Elementary SRTS Plan was developed during the 2024–2025 school year and is now complete. This plan outlines strategies and recommendations to make walking and biking safer and easier for Rochester elementary students, guiding the next phase of implementation and programming.
Meanwhile, the Middle School SRTS Plan is already in action, with several infrastructure improvements scheduled for construction during the 2025 season.
Help us make walking and biking the easy choice for Rochester students!
