Middle and high school families -- As we head into the 2023-2024 school year, we wanted to share with you some changes that will be taking place regarding our grading procedures.

The adjustments to grading practices in RPS that are outlined here were informed by the recommendations of a working group that met during the fall of 2022 and a districtwide survey of teachers and administrators conducted in the spring of 2023. These changes apply to middle and high school students only.

Parameters for Determining Final Grades

Individual teachers have the flexibility to determine the percentage that each of the following components counts toward the final grade in each course they teach within the following parameters:

  • Summative Assessments
  • Formative Assessments
  • Homework
  • Class Participation

Read about the details for each of these areas, as well as our new policy on retakes and factors that may not be counted in a student's final grade on the Grading at RPS page on our website. You can also download our one-page document with the facts.

We plan to send this information out to all RPS middle and high school students as well.
