Incoming Kindergarten Newsletter

Spring has finally arrived, and that means we are busy preparing for your kindergartner. Over the last few months, we have shared important information on Registration, Early Childhood Screening, School Age Child Care (SACC), PTA/PTSA, and what you need to know about kindergarten transportation. In this month’s newsletter, we are focusing on Student Health Services. We feel strongly about providing safe and healthy learning environments for all students and want to be prepared to support every child upon entering our buildings.

Student Health Information

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. Our Department of Student Health Services is a key component to meeting this daily goal. If your child has special considerations (such as food allergies, diabetes, asthma, seizures, etc.), we need to know about this before your child begins kindergarten. Please visit our Student Health Services page for more information

Immunizations

The State of Minnesota requires several immunizations before a child enters school. Before your child’s fifth birthday, we recommend contacting your child’s primary care physician to schedule a Well Child Checkup for your incoming kindergarten student. Schedule early to ensure your child will have the needed immunizations before their first day of school. Students will not be allowed to start school on the first day if they do not have their immunizations or the proper documentation for exemption. Visit the immunizations page on our website to see a full list of immunizations by age.

Reminder: Summer School Aged Child Care (SACC) Registration begins tomorrow, April 17 at 6 a.m.

Your kindergartener must be five years old to attend Summer SACC. Registration for Summer SACC begins at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17. In the past, space has filled quickly, so we recommend registering promptly. Some things to note:

  • Summer SACC serves children 5 years old who are registered for Kindergarten through children entering 6th Grade.

  • There is a $100 non-refundable registration fee/per family.

  • Families are required to schedule and pay for at least one day.

  • Each child requires their own contract.

  • Sunset Terrace Elementary, Overland Elementary, and Riverside Elementary will be our Summer SACC sites.

  • Field trips are offered during the 2024 Summer Contract. Families can sign up for individual trips once their kids are registered.

  • The daily rate is $45/day. The drop-in rate is $50/day.

You must complete all registrations online. View more information, including how to register and the associated fees, on the SACC page on our website. The SACC office team is ready to answer your questions. You can reach them at saccoffice@rochesterschools.org or 507.328.4040.
