School Nurse Day Highlight: Marnie Shelley

May 8 is National School Nurse Day, and we're celebrating by highlighting some of our school nurses throughout the day. Marni Shelley, RN, is the Health Office Nurse Lead and works districtwide.

Why did you choose to work in a school setting versus a clinical setting?

I enjoy working with kids, and the schedule is perfect for my family.

How do you feel you contribute to student success as a school nurse?

Nurses support the whole person and help build trusting relationships with students. We are always there to assist in their success!

What’s your favorite part of your job as a school nurse?

Establishing relationships with students who are in need of support, helping them be successful in school, and then watching them graduate. I am so proud of them!

What do you wish people knew about your job as a nurse?

It is so much more than putting bandages on skinned knees! School Nurses are critical in supporting all students - from basic health needs to collaborating with other departments to support students with more complex medical needs. The success of every student is our goal!

Thank you to Marni and all of our school nurses!
