Former student/current staff highlight Jess Rollie

Jess Rollie is a first grade teacher at Bishop Elementary School. She is a former RPS student who attended Elton Hills Elementary, John Adams Middle School, and John Marshall High School.

Why did you choose to work at RPS after attending RPS?

RPS is all I've ever known! I grew up in Rochester, and basically never left. I went to college in Winona but came right back afterwards. I think the familiarity of Rochester and having so many friends and family here is what has kept me here. The GIP program too was a HUGE reason I came to Rochester and stayed here in Rochester.

What's your favorite part about your RPS job?

Working at the school in the same neighborhood  I live in has been so much fun. Seeing kids ride by on their bikes or when I'm out in the neighborhood is always just a special treat. I LOVE the excitement when they see me outside of school. I also the relationships I've been able to create with some incredible families!

What aspect of RPS are you happy to see hasn't changed since you were a student?

Rocket PRIDE is still going strong. I LOVE that my daughter is now a rocket and I get to relive some of my great high school memories through her. I haven't convinced her yet to wear any of my old ROCKET gear but hopefully soon!

What about your RPS education would you attribute to getting you where you are currently?

I had a great experience growing up in RPS and having built so many strong relationships is one of the many reasons I stayed here to teach.
