Black History Month Scientists. 1 Annie Easley - known as the human computer, an accomplished mathematician with major contributions to nasa research. 2 Neil deGrasse Tyson. astrophysicist best known for his many media appearances discussing space topics. Harold Amos, microbiologist and first black department chair at Harvard Medical school. heavily contributed to research and education in microbiology. Mae Jemison engineer physician and nasa astronaut. She was the first black woman to travel into space. Rochester public schools logo.
Black history month inventions. Home security system invented by Marie van Britten brown. Also credited with the first CCTV system as well. Traffic light, invented by Garret Morgan after witnessing a car accident and thinking of ways to control traffic. Synchronous multiples railway telegraph invented by Granville woods. A big contributor to train and streetcar development with over 50 patents. Color computer monitor invented by Mark Dean, a professor from the university of Tennessee.

Did you know you could work with School Aged Child Care (SACC) in our elementary schools, make $15/hour, and get elective credit toward graduation?   A few things to note: Work hours are from 8th hour to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can work at an elementary school close to your high school. Applicants must be 16+ and provide their own transportation. Scheduling will depend on your required classes and high school schedule. If your schedule is already full and you still want to work part-time at SACC, contact Nate at naschriever@rochesterschools.org. Summer hours are also available! Summer hiring starts in March/April. Students hired must maintain good work habits to remain in the course.  If this interests you, see your counselor for details on credits and to explore your options.
